A photographer asks:

When taking a pic in center weight mode, should you use center weight or matrix evaluative in including a pic with gray kard?

In custom white balance, an image of the Digital Grey kard is used to set the WB point. One the WB point is set, it will not matter which meter mode you use for the ensuing photos.

Setting the WB point:

The key requirements for the image of the Digital Grey Kard are that it should be illuminated by the same light as your subject, and the exposure should be close to correct (Exposure is not critically important, as long as it is not way off - plus or minus 1/2 stop of exposure will not matter).

What meter mode (center, spot or evaluative) is used to take the pic of the DGK does not matter. Other things being equal, center and spot are more likely to give you a properly exposed image of the DGK card in conditions where other elements in the scene are very bright or very dark.
